Upton Ecological and Research Reserve Brookhaven National Laboratory occupies 5,265 acres. On November 9, 2000, ten percent of the site (530 acres) was permanently set aside for the purposes of conservation and ecological research.

Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Isand This organization's goal is to study and preserve our delicate coastal ecosystems mostly through marine mammal and sea turtle research. They also have great pelagic bird cruises during the summer months. A site worth checking out (and I happen to be a board member).

Four Harbors Audubon Society chapter serves the towns of Centereach, Coram, East Setauket, Farmingville, Kings Park, Lake Grove Middle Island, Miller Place, Mount Sinai, Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Station, Ridge, Rocky Point, Saint James, Selden, Shoreham, Smithtown, Sound Beach, and Stony Brook.

North Fork Audubon Society: We are a local chapter of the National Audubon Society. We cover the entire North Fork of Long Island, New York, from Jamesport to Orient Point; including the Towns of Southold, Shelter Island, and Fishers Island.
North Shore Audubon The area served by this chapter reaches along the north shore of Long Island, east from Great Neck to Cold Spring Harbor, and south to New Hyde Park and Westbury.
